A beautiful place....

I have been back from Rome for over 2 months now, and I still find myself thinking about this gorgeous city and country every day! This trip was one that we had been looking forward to and I can't believe it has come and gone! I can't really find one word that describes the trip of a lifetime!

Waiting for the time to pass for our flight

Coffee time!!!

Day #1 June 26, 2012
When we arrived in Rome we were a little less than desirable...we didn't get much sleep on the plane, we hadn't had a shower in about 36 hours, we were hot, and well not in the greatest mood! The tour guides swept us away from the airport straight to mass at the Basilica of Saint Paul outside the Walls...this basilica was absolutely gorgeous! We had mass and a tour of the church. We walked down the street a little ways and had lunch as a whole group. We were finally able to get to the hotel room at around 3pm...and I'm telling you that I was never so grateful for a shower and a nap. We had dinner as a family that night and headed to bed to prepare for our vacation to begin!! Now, since we were unable to shower until after we headed to the hotel, I didn't allow any pictures of me to be taken...so day #1 was a is a day of picture without people in them!!!!

Day #2: June 27. 2012
We had a wake-up call of a bright and early 6am...uuugggg when that phone rang I thought to myself..."I thought I was on vacation!" We loaded up the buses and head to the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where we had mass and a guided tour. From this church we walked to another called the Church of Saint Alphonsus that houses the original icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. What a beautiful church this was with the mosaics and statues.  That afternoon we went to the catacombs outside the walls of Rome.  It is a 7 mile underground cemetery which people are no longer buried in, but where in the past because it was not allowed to bury people in the walls of Rome.  It was really interesting and actually nice and cool underground, compared to the 90 degree weather with out of this world humidity!  This evening we were invited to the Ambassador of the Holy Seas house for a reception for the 4 US Archbishops that received their palliums the week we were there!

Day #3: June 28, 2012
We had another wake up call at the butt crack of dawn...it was a great trip, but we were always have to make sure we were down in the lobby for the bus at a certain time.  Today we headed to the Vatican and went on the Scavi tours.  We got to tour the graves under St. Peter's Bascilica and got to see where St. Peter's was buried.  It was amazing...and the different ways people were buried was very interesting!  We then got to go upstairs to the see the Vatican...all I can say about this place was it is breathtaking.  We went on a little shopping spree and my sisters and I got a cameo ring...just like my grandma Chaput bought in '97 when she was in Rome for my uncle's first pallium mass.  After seeing the Vatican (we come back a different day with more time) we loaded the bus and went to see the Holy Stairs and had mass at St. John Lateran.  Now the Vatican was a amazing and nothing could really compare to the beauty of it...but besides the Vatican my favorite church was St. John Lateran.  It just seemed more modern and it was beautiful in it's own way.  We didn't have time to climb the Holy Stairs the way most people climb them...on their knees one step at time with a prayer on each step, so we went around them and ended up in the chapel on top of them and had our own reflection time for a few minutes.

Day 4: June 29, 2012
This was the day that was the biggest highlight of the trip and the reason we went to Rome.  It was the Pallium mass with Pope Benedict.  Our wake-up call was the earliest yet on this day with that phone ringing bright and early at 5:00 am.  What an amazing day it was!  We had mass with the pope and all the Archbishops around the world that were receiving their pallium.  Tori & I were sitting with our parents, aunt & uncle, & Darren minding our own business when a guard walked right up to us and ushered us to a seat in the front row.  We were within 20 ft. of the Pope when he came around and addressed the Sisters of Calcutta.  I remember Tori saying as the mass was beginning that her heart was beating so fast and it was true for both of us...this was an experience of a lifetime to see the pope and attend mass that was said by him.  After the mass we had a reception at the North American College with all the Archbishops from the US.  We had dinner that night with the whole group of pilgrims that was amazing!!!
Good Morning St. Peter's Square!!! (it's 6:20 am)

I'm so glad we are all happy to get up at the butt crack of dawn!

Day 5: June 30, 2012
Today we got to go back to Vatican City and to St. Peter's Basilica for a formal tour.  We celebrated mass at the Alter of the Chair of St. Peter...it was a great celebration!  After the guided tour of the basilica we were able to attend the Papal audience which was a private audience with the pope and all the archbishops and their groups that were in Rome for the pallium mass.  After the papal audience, Tori, Darren, & I boarded the bus and headed to ancient Rome with a guided tour...I was not exactly looking forward to going to ancient Rome because it was sooooo hot that day and in the middle of the afternoon...in fact, I was wishing that I would have taken the other bus and went back to the hotel with my mom and dad...but after the tour with one the best guides ever, I stood there and it all hit me and the whole trip was all brought together and I had this feeling come over me that I can't explain...but at that moment I understood just exactly why I was there and the meaning of the trip meant so much more. After, a quick shower we headed to the Sistine Chapel...now this place was also amazing!!  We had a private after-hours tour with the guide that took us to ancient Rome...and again she was phenomenal!!!

Day 6: July 1, 2012
This day we had a day trip to Assisi! We visited the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, the Basilica of St. Clare, and celebrated mass at the Basilica of St. Francis.  We shopped around the city of Assisi a little bit then had lunch as a group!  Assisi was such a beautiful city and since we knew that it was the last day we had in Italy it was hard to leave this quiet little city!

The countryside in Italy was beautiful

Blogging Hiatus

Wow, it's been forever since I last posted a blog...6 months to be exact and that is way too long.  It's not that I have been too busy, I just haven't done it.  I came across a caringbridge website the other day, and the lady that had been injured in a car vs. pedestrian accident had kept a journal every single day of her life about many things: the ups, the downs, the miracles, the failures, the love...and when she was badly injured her children got to read all these entries that made them realize how wonderful their mom really was...a part of me thought I should do that, I have experiences that some people don't have, but then I remembered that even though I don't post everyday, I do have a journal that I keep about my life and how I feel about the different things that are going on in this life that I lead!  So, here I am, promising to keep up with my blog!:)
Since I haven't posted since January 13th, I am going to highlight each month to hopefully cut down on the length of this blog!
Late January:  I travelled to Kansas City for one of my friend's baby shower that I and 3 other friends threw for her.  It was great to be back in a city that I once lived in and be with the friends that made living there fabulous!  It's amazing how it all came back to me, the highways, how to get here and there, downtown KC, and fun with friends!  Oh, the memories that city brings back!

Feburary: Not much happened this month, I spent my time working and trying to stay warm here in the Rockies.  The amount of snow that we got this winter was a ton!  My friend Kendra, her husband Travis and their adorable baby boy came to visit me!  I introduced them to fondue!  A group of my friends and I spent an evening at a place called Canvas & Cocktails...we recreated our version of Starry Night!!!

March:  I spent 5 days in Sioux Falls, SD with my older sister and her beautiful family!  It was great to see Hudson and Nicholas!  Hudson had changed a lot since I had been there in January!  My great friend Jenny gave birth to her beautiful daughter Jentry!  It's amazing seeing all my friends get married and have a family of their own...and then I think back about the memories we made in college and how back then we never thought we would have children!  My friend Lexie came to visit and we spent a long weekend in Breckenridge skiing, watching March Maddness, and just enjoying each other by catching up on our lives!

April: I spent a long weekend in Oakley with my entire family for Easter!  We always have a great time!  It was baby Hudson's first trip to Nana and Papa's house!  He is such a great baby!  We spent Easter Sunday with some of my mom's sister's and her brother, and their families!  In late April, a high school friend came out to visit me, we went hiking, enjoyed an evening downtown having sushi and going to Howl at the Moon dueling piano bar!

May: My mom, dad, and Tori came out to Denver for a weekend full of shopping for our trip to Rome in June!  We were successful in finding fabulous clothes to visit Italy!  Of course, my dad proposed his idea about going to the mall and finding a new pair of shoes then going up to the mountains to the casino, of course he won his proposal!!  However, it saved us girls from having to listen to him complaining about just how much fun shopping is!!!  He loves those casinos!

Beginning of June: This month has already been filled with fabulous weekends...and I have many more to come!!!  The first weekend, I went home to Oakley and ran in the 1st annual 5K/10K race with my mom and sister!  I only ran the 5k, but cut 2 minutes off my time!!!  I was beyond surprised!!!  Tori was an animal and ran the 10K...I admire her ambition!!!  She did a fabulous job and cut 3 mintues off her time!  Mom ran/walked the 5k and Tori told her that her goal was below 40 minutes and she did it!!!  It was a fabulous morning and a great day to spend time with my family!!  Just when I thought I had ran out of steam...I turned the corner on main street and there was my dad standing at the water stop in front of the Annie Oakley Hotel and seeing him gave me a little more kick to finish the race!

After my race in Oakley, I bought a TREK roadbike!  I have been wanting a roadbike after I have been training on the trails of the front range in Denver!!  The trails are paved trails that go through the whole city!  A person doesn't have to cross a street or worry about cars!!  I love it....my bike and I have already done many miles!  I am planning to do an All-Women's ride in August with a friend!  I can't wait!

Last weekend I went to Snowmass, Co with a group of friends for a Chili Pepper Brew fest!  We had a blast!!  Anyone that knows me knows that Chili is not my favorite...and even after a few too many beers, I am still not a fan of that nasty stuff!  I just can't make myself like it!  After the festival we left Snowmass Sunday morning drove to Hanging Lake, we hiked the 2 miles straight up the mountain to get to a beautiful lake!!  It was worth the strenuous hike!

And that brings us to today!!!  This is a rather long post, but it's 6 months worth of updates!!! I promise to keep up to date with this blog from now on!!!  Know that I am loving Denver and all it has to offer!!!  This city and I have become close friends!!!  Tomorrow I start a 4 day stretch of work only to end on Tuesday with vacation!!!  My family and I are headed to Rome next Sunday and we can hardly wait!!!  Unitl next time....

For the bapitismal gown my mom, sister's and I decided to make one that means a lot to everyone.  Since my mom got my grandma's wedding gown when she moved out of her house, we decided to use my grandma's, mom's, Jera's, and Tori's wedding gowns and make gown!  It's beautiful and Hudson looked stunning in it!!!

It was a great weekend with my family and celebrating Hudson's birth and entrance into the church!  I love family time!!!  I miss them all already and especially my adorable godson!!!  Life is such a miracle!!

Hudson LeeRoy Potter

Our family grew by one more on Dec. 30 2011 when my nephew/godson Hudson LeeRoy Potter was born!!  He is such a doll!!!  I made a trip to see him a week after he was born and I didn't want to leave when it was time to come back to Denver!

I'm first going to start with Hudson's baby shower in KC.  My sister's friends in KC threw her a baby shower and Tori and I went!  This was way back in Sept, but I just found the pictures on my camera. We had no idea that she was going to have a boy, but little did we know that Jera knew and wasn't telling anyone. Jera got a lot of nice things and it was good to see her for the weekend.

It was such a nice shower and a beautiful day to celebrate our little miracle Hudson!!!

On Dec. 29th I was talking to Tori on the phone and told her that I was headed to work and said that I am getting up the next morning around 12:30 my time, so DO NOT call me until after that, because she was coming to see me the next day and I knew that she would call asking about what to pack.  Well, at 11:00 am my phone started ringing and she wouldn't stop!!  I ingnored 4 phone calls until I got a text in capital letters that said this: PICK UP YOUR PHONE, IT'S AN EMERGENCY!!!  So, of course I had to call her and I get a "Jera's going to have the baby today!!  I'm sooooo excited!!!"  I was like really????  If she's still breathing and her heart is still beating this can wait!  Don't get me wrong, I was excited, but I was in the middle of my sleep that I needed so that I was able to have fun the rest of the weekend!
Baby boy Hudson LeeRoy was born on the Dec. 30th at 12:57 pm!  He weighed 7lbs. 2 oz and was 21 inches long!  He is the cutest little baby!
